The Legacy Christian Academy Choral program is always seeking to find additional experiences to encourage our students to seek excellence as they develop their skills. We promote several different extra-curricular activities to help encourage them down that path.
Concerto & Aria Contest
Our elementary and junior high students may choose to work on a solo to perform at our own on-site contest. Those students are judged by a qualified vocal/instrumental specialists/educators. The students who receive the top score in their category are invited to perform their piece at their respective concerts. Students may compete in vocal, piano and instrumental categories. This is an annual event.
Chamber Singers
Concert Choir students may audition for our Chamber Singers. They rehearse once a week and perform at all of our choral concerts as well as out in the community. They work to achieve a high level of skill and excellence and primarily sing acapella music.
Worship Team
Concert Choir and Concert Band students are also encouraged to use their talents and abilities to lead fellow students in worship during our weekly Chapel services. Application and audition is required at the beginning of the school year.
Pep Band
Pep Band is a bi-product of our Instrumental Band Classes. This performing group consists of all 7-12th grade students participating in either Concert Band or Festival Band. The Pep Band season is typically during the Winter Sports season. However, the band may perform at other sporting events and venues throughout the school year.
Solo/Ensemble Contest
Our Concert Choir and Concert Band students may choose to participate in the Minnesota State High School League’s Solo/Ensemble Contest. They prepare a solo and/or small ensemble piece to perform before a judge. Many of our students have received Superior ratings as a reward for all their hard work and effort.
ACDA State, Regional and National Honors Choirs
Legacy Christian Academy choir students have made regular appearances at all levels in the Minnesota American Choral Director’s Associations State Honors Choirs. Nearly two thousand students audition statewide for the four different choirs (Elementary, Junior High Girls, Junior High Boys and 9th-10th Mixed Choir). These choirs perform in conjunction with the Minnesota ACDA and MMEA Music Conferences. In past years, we have also had students who represented our school as part of the North Central Midwest Regional Honors Choirs. In 2010, for the first time ever, three of our LCA choir students have been selected to sing in the ACDA National Honors Choirs and will perform in Chicago at the ACDA National Conference.
MBDA State and Regional Honors Bands
Band students have the opportunity to be nominated to the Central Division Honor Bands and participate with band students from all over Central Minnesota in the Elementary, Middle School, and 9th-10th Grade Honor Bands. This past year LCA students participated in all levels. They also have the opportunity to audition for the State MBDA Honor Bands.
MMEA All State
Concert Choir and Concert Band students may join hundreds of others from all over the state in auditioning for All State Choirs, All State Bands, All State Jazz Band, and All State Orchestra through the Minnesota Music Educators Association. Selection is considered the highest musical honor in the state. Throughout the years we have had students audition and be selected to represent our school. Just in the past two years, five of our choral students have been selected to participate in the MMEA All State Choirs.
