This year, Legacy is playing a new note in the middle school music department. Violin, viola, and cello have united together to form a brand new orchestra.

The orchestra is a group of mainly 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who have become interested in the strings sections of musical instruments. 4th graders Grace Balk, Beth Dittberner, Madi Bruner, Jason Dupay, Jamie Nelson, and Hailey Ortquist, and 5th graders Brissa Dorff, Alexa Melby, Jessica Nelson, and McKorey Wims have all picked up the violin for orchestra this year. 6th grader Sydney Manske plays violin as well, and Thomas Frosch has taken up the viola. We also have one secondary student, junior Jianing Wu, who has made a fantastic start on cello.

Together, the small ensemble of young musicians combine to produce a lovely sound– one should look forwa

rd to hearing in the near future.

Everyone will get to hear them, in fact. Starting second semester, all grades of the orchestra will be coming together to start practicing. They hope to have their very first performance this spring. The students are very excited to share what they have accomplished with their parents and friends.

As the music programs grows during the next few years, and as Legacy moves into its new building, it hopes to expand the strings section to elementary, middle, and high school.
