National Honor Society

National Honor Society is a national organization that honors students who excel in academics, character, leadership, and service. NHS has high standards for membership and the vetting process is extremely competitive.

All juniors and seniors who have been at LCA for at least one year and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to apply for membership in NHS. All applicants must meet the deadlines for material submission. An NHS selection committee, made up of teachers, will make final decisions on applicants for membership. Because of NHS guidelines, all qualified candidates will not necessarily be chosen for membership.  Each year, all NHS members must complete ten hours of community service and volunteer to help at one school-related event.

2016 Induction Ceremony

On Friday November 18, Legacy had the privilege of bringing together faculty, staff, parents, special guests, and students in inducting 2 seniors and 13 juniors into Legacy’s chapter of the National Honor Society. Together with the 13 students who had been inducted last year as juniors, the morning was an opportunity to recognize God’s work in the lives of these students in the areas of character, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Our chapter is proud to have been inducting new members for many years now and the ceremony is an opportunity to emphasize continually how we strive to be “salt and light” in our schools, churches, neighborhoods, and communities.

The selection process is not an easy one. In addition to meeting the minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.5 or higher, a student’s application is then reviewed by a five-member volunteer faculty council, considering what the students are doing in the areas of character, leadership, and service. The recommendation for membership is offered when a student exhibits excellence not in just one or two of these pillars, but all four.

The faculty council quickly recognized that our candidates — both those selected to membership and those not — are serving our school and community in vital and necessary ways. We are proud of this record of accomplishment and eagerly welcomed these new members who bring new energy and support of our continuing work as a chapter and as a school.

Thank you for joining with us in congratulating the following individuals for their excellence in character, scholarship, leadership, and service:
