Legacy Christian Academy

Physically distant doesn’t have to mean socially isolated. Legacy’s Community Friday’s kicked off on April 3 with the intention of giving our community opportunities to play together, worship together, connect with each other, and grow together. With these initiatives we are reinventing extracurriculars for this temporary season of social distancing.

Who woke up early on Friday to sweat it out with Coach Dew, Coach Manske, or Coach Nelson?
Who took in a chapel service on YouTube? Between the two videos we posted, there were 679 views!
Who got in the kitchen and tried their hand at cloud eggs thanks to Mr. Nydam and Dr. Lohse’s “How-to Video?” Along with 154 others, Mrs. Vance whipped up some of her own cloud eggs!
Who got serious about Chore Challenges? We heard from the Price family as well as the Olson family!
Who checked off some boxes on the Fitness Bingo sheets? That advanced Bingo card is NOT for the faint of heart! Senior Athletes … show us what you got!

Our goal here is NOT to overwhelm, but to provide creative outlets to engage with others in our community. There is NO expectation to participate, but we hope you find something that makes you want to jump into the ring with us.

Community Fridays

An annual tradition, here’s what some of our Senior Band/Choir students had to share about this years tour to Michigan.

“Band and Choir tour this year was an experience to remember. Though it was just a shorter trip this year, there were memories that will last a lifetime. It was great getting to perform for another Christian school where we were able to inspire many of the younger kids who are also current fine arts student. The biggest impact of the band and choir tour thought was being able to mentor the younger kids to show them how to lead with integrity and accountability in future years. Being able to watch as us seniors have grown and being able to be part of the process of seeing the underclassmen grow in their faith and in themselves in general is a true blessing that leaves the biggest mark from the seniors.” – Senior Student

“The band tour is for both influencing and impacting others that we visit and for bonding as a band and choir. We traveled up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We performed Thursday for Crooked Lake elementary and Friday for Valley Christian School. Friday night we also got to have a senior night and bond as a group with seniors doing worship and giving advice. On Saturday we got to spend the entire day skiing and bonding together.” – Senior Student

Allowing and promoting opportunities for students to be creative is a focus at Legacy Christian Academy! In Ms. Bock’s fifth grade, the students had a great opportunity to partner with and teach Mrs. Anderson’s preschool students about construction zones and the importance of these areas. At the beginning of the week, fifth graders used slideshow presentations and posters to explain different aspects of a construction zone including: workers, tools, vehicles and equipment. The fifth graders and preschool students then created prototypes of the zones using materials from home, including paper tubes, paper towel tubes, boxes, cotton balls, tape, popsicle sticks, buttons, random art supplies, and more. Finally, the PreK classroom was turned into a construction zone for the prototypes to come to life.

The fifth grade students were able to use technology to create presentations that included math principles of costs, area and dimensions, and volume. They were also able to present to the preschool students and discover their love for public speaking and teaching. As demonstrated in the pictures attached, art was included in the design of posters and ultimately the construction zones themselves. Both Ms. Bock and Mrs. Anderson were filled with joy as they listened to students share ideas, collaborate together, and then come up with a plan and a solution to fulfill their plan. It is amazing what students come up with all on their own given basic household supplies!

As a fun bonus, Mr. Mulvihill and Kinghorn Construction allowed the students to wear hard hat construction helmets to encourage their creative spirits! Thank you to the parents and school friends who made this project possible.

What a season the Lady Lions Volleyball program has had! On October 1st, Legacy captured their first conference win in 10 years with an undefeated recored in the MCAA. This garnered the attention of our local paper (ABC Newspapers) with a very flattering write up you can read HERE.

As their regular season ended on Tuesday October 15th, they celebrated a JV season that saw only 3 losses and a Varsity team that earned the 3rd seed for playoffs in Section 4A with an overall record of 16-13. They now look forward to the playoff run which will kick off at HOME on Tuesday October 29th at 7PM for the Section 4A Quarter Final game. With their eyes on advancing to the 2019 State Tournament, fans can expect a high paced, entertaining night of volleyball!

We had an incredible day of service on Friday, October 4! YouthWorks partnered with us to provide service opportunities that were local, compelling, and authentic. Our students had the opportunity to use various gifts to serve like-minded organizations and the Twin Cities, and in doing so, glorify God. We want our students to be servants, and this day provided an opportunity for students to fulfill our vision for them! Mr. Keefe and Dr. Lohse were able to visit many sites while our students were serving and herd overwhelmingly positive feedback from the site leaders.

CROSS COUNTRY

In his second year leading the Legacy/PACT Cross Country Co-op, Coach Dave Johnson shares how pleased he is with the progress of the entire team. According to Coach Dave, “the boys are competing against top level teams and do not take a backseat to anyone. Our maturity has greatly improved. For our girls, we are learning how to compete as a team. We are extremely young and look to improve the next 6 weeks.”

Highlights thus far include a 3rd place boys finish out of 13 teams in the Pine City Invitational and a 7th finish in a very tough field of runners at Mora. In their first scoring event as a team, the girls earned an 11th place finish out of 18 teams, indicating a bright future as they continue to mature in their racing skills.

The trio of Jeremy Davie, Ben Nauman, and River Santiago are leading the way for the boys team. All have consistently placed in the top 15. Coach Johnson hopes to celebrate at least three All-Conference runners; determined in a single race on Thursday October 10th at Bassett Creek Park. Both the boys and the girls continue to train with a post-season mindset of sending runners to the State Tournament meet on November 2nd at St. Olaf College.

GIRLS SOCCER

Growth continues to be at the core of the Lady Lions Soccer season as we reach the mid-point of the 2019 season. Head Coach Todd Manske shares that the highlight of this season has been, “Watching the girls work so hard every game and seeing the relationships between older and younger players develop.” He’s thankful for good leadership from all ages on the team.

As hard as they’ve worked, their biggest challenge continues to be finding the net. Ari Shank and Alicia Hoffman stand out as players creating great opportunities with their hustle and skill, yet the final result continues to be denied. Despite that challenge, the girls willingly serve each other and build each other up, creating a culture primed for future success.

The team is looking forward to facing new conference opponents in the remaining games of the regular season and advancing beyond the first round of playoffs for the first time in two years.

BOYS SOCCER

Transition and transformation define the 2019 Lions Boys Soccer season. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jon Schultz the program has adopted a more complex formation, requiring the players to change how they think about soccer. They are developing their thinking game as well as their physical play. With a record of 5-1-2, it’s safe to say the boys are understanding the new formation and finding success with it.

Defensive player, Daniel Gerber, continues to a be a leading force on the team, keeping threats away from the net and allowing the offense time to put points on the board. Coach Schultz shares, “I’m excited to see what becomes of our squad as we continue to grow into our new formation and mindset”.

VOLLEYBALL

Both Varsity and JV teams have had a tremendous start to the 2019 season. Currently the JV is 11-1 and the Varsity is 12-3. Both teams are undefeated in the conference (MCAA). Our Volleyball community is continuing to strive for excellence and at the same time, demonstrating Christ-likeness in our walk both on and off the court.

Coach Rudzitis indicates the strong community that we have by both parents and players has been a highlight of this season. Competitively, the biggest team success came after defeating a tough Spectrum team in a local tournament that required the team to overcome a deficit. With a shallow bench, many players are on the court full time with no breaks.

Juniors Olivia Wallmow and Mya Bredemus have the most experience on the court and are stepping up in leadership roles both in play and in demeanor. Sophomore Tezra Rudzitis is having a tremendous breakout year by adding the role of a hitter to the team.

Overall, the girls gel very well together. They are quick and have the desire to be a championship team. Coach Rudzitis shared that he expects to be ranked quite high for play-offs, stating “I expect the team will go deep into the play-offs with an opportunity to knock off a couple of contenders to get to the State Tournament.” A high seed translates into a number of home games for our fans to enjoy!

On Monday, August 19th, Legacy welcomed 567 students into the building to kickoff the 2019-2020 school year.

The high fives were flying, the music was pumping and the smiles were lighting up the halls! We could not be more excited to have our students back in the building!

A graduation program complete with Tributes to Parents, Tributes to Staff, Graduate Reflections, Faculty Challenge and Prayer of Blessing all preceded the Ceremony of the Tassel for these amazing LCA Class of 2019 graduates.

Spring at Legacy has been filled with the sounds of beautiful music!

April 11th was slotted as the start of of the spring concert season for us here at Legacy, however mother nature had other plans. Inclement weather forced us to postpone our 5th and 6th grade program to the following afternoon, Friday April 12th. The situation called for creativity and we made a decision to share the concert on Facebook & YouTube for parents that couldn’t get the time off of work.

This performance was followed by the PreK-4th grade spring program on April 25th, the 7th-12th grade band concert on May 2nd and finally the 7th-12th grade choir concert on May 9th. Watching the progression of musicianship from PreK-12 is a special gift at Legacy. Music Directors Mrs. Gerber and Mr. Rudzitis do an amazing job of building confidence through duets and solos all the way through. We hope you enjoyed a performance or two!

Legacy students C. Block, H. Montenegro, and B. Murdoff received Honorable Mention Awards for their Magnetic Flexible Building project in the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision National Competition. This award places our student project among the top 10% of all projects submitted. In addition, over 400,000 students were a part of the competition. This means, at minimum, 100,000 teams entered a project. Our students were one of about 500 teams to earn an Honorable Mention and the ONLY MN Middle School team to compete!
